Lumber Camp a community effort

On behalf of the Central Boiler and Wood-Mizer Lumber Camp and its sponsors, including Husqvarna, Steve’s Sports, Hedstrom Lumber Company, Nace Hagemann Construction, Wildfire Protection Systems and MN Army National Guard, Lutsen Mountains, Eagle Ridge, Lutsen Real Estate Group, Lutsen Lodging Company, Marine General, Northstar Cabling and Communications, Studio 61, Circle H Timber, and Clearwater Outfitters and Lodge, we would like to thank all who helped make the 2011 Fisherman’s Picnic possible.

First and foremost, the Grand Marais Lions Club for their work on the entire event. The Fisherman’s Picnic has an amazing 82-year history and is a tremendous effort on the part of the Lions Club.

Also a special thank you to all of the officers and deputies of the Cook County Sheriff ’s Department, the fire department and city employees for all the extra effort during the event.

Local businesses deserve recognition as well for all of the extra service provided during the event. Special thanks to Java Moose, Harbor Inn and The Pie Place for being so supportive of such a large production on their front steps.

Thank you to the North Shore Rollers and the parents for facilitating log rolling for a number of Grand Marais youth as well as coaching and driving the athletes up the trail for extra training sessions at the Atkinson pond. We appreciate the support from Northstar Cabling and Communications and Studio 61 for sponsoring the team this year.

Our onsite crew including Harmon Hanson (our camp crew boss), Dave Sievert, Byron Mclean, Joe Coleman, Jackson Coleman, Jeffrey Coleman, Jessica Berg-Collman, Damien Zimmer, and Dylan Deschampe were a great help. A special thanks to our camp cook, Jennifer Hanson, for making sure we took time to eat and for all the donut shop runs. The camp boss couldn’t make it without two raspberries and a maple to start the workday.

Thanks also to Tony Everson and Judd Coleman for use of forklifts, trucks and trailers. Also thanks to Berglund Logging for the use of the Wood-Mizer edging machine. Thanks to the judges during competition and the athletes who helped tear down Lumber Camp.

It takes a lot of people to make a great event like the Fisherman’s Picnic, so thank you to all who participated in the effort!
