Louis G. Terrizzi

Louis G. Terrizzi, 76, passed away peacefully in the early hours of July 1, 2015 from an extended illness at home, surrounded by family.

He was born February 9, 1939 in Glendale, California to Louis and Alice (DeGeorge) Terrizzi. His family later moved to Queens, New York where he graduated from high school.

In Grand Marais he met and later married Clare Twiest in 1959 and they moved to Sacramento, California. They returned to live in Colvill (Grand Marais) to start a family, build their home and run their family owned gift shop. Lou worked for the Cook County News-Herald, Hedstrom Lumber Company and served as a board member of Arrowhead Electric Cooperative. He later volunteered at the Cook County Museum and with Care Partners in Grand Marais.

In the fall of 2013 he and his wife moved to Hermantown.

He is preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Alice (Phil) Kulina of New York.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years Clare; daughter Dawn (David) Erickson and granddaughter Cassandra of Minnesota; daughter Susan Terrizzi of Minnesota; and his older sister Joan (Al) Scappaticci of New York.

Lou will be remembered for his work ethic, his love of words and original puns, his humor and artistic creativity that he shared with extended family and friends. He also enjoyed playing music on his keyboard.

A memorial gathering is being planned for sometime next year. His family prefers that any memorials may kindly be given to the Cook County Museum or Care Partners in Grand Marais.
