Lorraine Lucille Peterson, 94, of Lutsen, passed away peacefully May 24, 2017 with family by her side.
She was born in Duluth on May 6, 1923 to Edward and Katherine Ruidl. As the youngest of eight children she grew up and attended school in Proctor. She married Floyd William Peterson on Oct. 24, 1938. They were married for 66 years, living in Duluth; Leadville, Colo.; Hermantown; Schroeder; Tofte; Harlingen, Texas; and finally, Lutsen. After her husband’s passing Lorraine moved to Grand Marais. Her final home was at Carefree Living in Silver Bay, where she said the staff “spoiled” her.
Lorraine was an excellent cook, baker and homemaker. She enjoyed many years of camping all over the country with “Bill” in a VW Beetle and finally a VW camper. They made many friends at the campgrounds while visiting all the national parks.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents’ husband “Bill”; sons James and Floyd; grandson Scott; sisters Sylina, Alice, Mary and Dorothy; and brothers Edward, Patrick and Michael.
She is survived by daughter Lynn (Mike) Rose of Lutsen; granddaughters Shelly (Russell) Olson, Tracy Peterson, Lee Ann (James) Belski, and Theresa (Jody) Reinneccius; daughter in-law Elizabeth and her daughter Angela; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carefree Living for making her last days comfortable and pain-free. Lorraine appreciated visits from nieces and loving cards sent by relatives in California. We all enjoyed her sweetness and humor which she had to the end.
The family will gather at her final resting place in the Lutsen Cemetery later in the summer.
