Lorraine Grace (Asmus) Larson,





 

 

Lorraine Grace (Asmus) Larson, age 90, of Gaylord, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord, Minnesota.

Lorraine was born on January 27, 1926, in Gaylord. She was the daughter of August and Elsa (Sylwester) Asmus. Lorraine was baptized as an infant on February 14, 1926, by Rev. E.H. Gade and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 2, 1939, by Rev. H. Winter both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Due to her mother’s health, she attended school through the eighth grade.

On August 3, 1947, Lorraine was united in marriage to Charles Larson by Rev. E.H. Stalhke at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Lorraine and Charles farmed near Winthrop for 10 years, lived in Tofte for 20 years and then moved to Gaylord, where she lived the rest of her life. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Ron, Evie, Mark, Paul, Marian, and Beth. Lorraine and Charles shared over 46 years of marriage until Charles passed away in April 1993.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Lorraine kept herself busy being a bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business. She was an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where she was involved in the Immanuel Lutheran Woman’s League. Lorraine also was a member of a home Bible study group and the Lakeview Nursing Home Auxiliary.

Lorraine enjoyed gardening, sewing, and doing crafts. Lorraine cherished the time spent with her friends and family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Ron Larson and his wife, Carol, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Evie Burau and her husband, Grant, of Waconia, Minnesota, Mark Larson and his wife, Diane, of Mandeville, Louisiana, Paul Larson and his special friend, Amy, of Hill City, South Dakota, Marian Gorman of Willow River, Minnesota, Beth Foster and her husband, Carl, of Grand Marais; grandchildren, Heather Larson, Jeremiah Larson and his wife, Krystal, Amber Hennessey and her husband, Jason, Dawn Burau, Bret Burau and his wife, Gretchen, Sonja Brown and her husband, Sam, Jacob Larson and his wife, Tessa, Jessie Larson and his fiancée Angelica, Jenna Smith and her husband, Dennis, Michaela Buchheit, Zachary Buchheit; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Sawyer, Hunter, Tucker, Cooper, Elsa, Hazel, Eli, Artie, Ben, Charlie, Jacob, Joel, Jennie, Jauslynn, Jazmine, Mercedes; brothers, Fred Asmus and his wife, Ruth, of Winthrop, Minnesota, Walter Asmus and his wife, Eunice, of Gaylord; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, August and Elsa Asmus; husband,

Charles Larson; and sons-in-law, Don Gorman, Bob Reeves.

Memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran School, Mayer Lutheran High School, Lutheran Hour Ministries or donor’s choice.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Minnesota, with the Rev. James King officiating. Organist for the ceremony will be Michael Asmus and trumpet soloist Walter Asmus Jr. Congregational hymns will be: I Know That My Redeemer Lives, Beautiful Savior and I Am But A Stranger Here.
