Loretta May Kloster, Wabishkiiginew,





 

 

Loretta May Kloster, Wabishkiiginew, age 60, passed peacefully on

January 15, 2012 in her daughter’s home.

Loretta was an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of the Lake

Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

She was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario,

Canada to Harry and Ruth Kloster on

May 31, 1951.

Loretta grew up in Grand Marais, moved to Duluth and attended college at UMD, graduating in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and completing her master’s degree in educational psychology in 1981. She resided in Cass Lake, MN. Loretta was employed with the Cass Lake/Bena school district as a school social worker for over 25 years. She also worked at Bemidji State University as a chemical dependency cultural diversity professor.

Loretta enjoyed pow-wows, spending time outdoors and on the lake with friends and family. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren, laughing and having fun! Loretta was very athletic and active. Loretta played softball until she was 54 and was a member of the women’s 8-ball state champion pool team in 2000. She was also a state bowling champ. Loretta greatly enjoyed hunting and won several big buck contests. She was also an avid golfer.

Loretta was preceded in death by both parents, brother Willford Plummer, and sister Frances Ruth Kloster. Her grandparents on both sides are deceased as well.

Loretta is survived by her daughters Jennifer Martineau of Cass Lake and Rachel Barney (Joey) of Cloquet; grandchildren Samantha Charon, Levi Martineau, Sterling Martineau, Jamey Charon, Allison Martineau, Joey Barney Jr. and Clairissa Fairbanks; siblings Jean Kloster-Jezierski of Duluth, William “Husky” (Bernice) of Grand Marais, and Edward Kloster (Jamee) of Silver Bay; nephew, Roger (Brianna) Kloster of Grand Marais and nieces Kelly, Emily, Amy, and Ally Kloster, all of Silver Bay.

Loretta touched many hearts and will be dearly missed by numerous friends and family members.

Traditional services were held at the Sawyer Community Center in Sawyer, MN on Thursday, January 19, 2012. The funeral service was January 20.
