Lola Mae Lamont, age 74, found peace on Sunday, May 4, 2014.
Lola was born in Fargo, North Dakota October 6, 1939. She graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1957 and went on to Concordia College graduating in 1961. While at Concordia, Lola met James Lamont, an engineering student who was attending North Dakota State University. Lola explained that Jim was on a missionary effort to save her. They were married on December 10, 1960 in West Fargo by Jim’s former Lutheran pastor who had confirmed him.
The couple traveled together to a number of locations for James’ work to Hutchinson, Minnesota; Bradford, Ontario; Cortland, New York; Roseau, Minnesota; Mayville, Wisconsin; Pewaukee, Wisconsin; and finally New Berlin, Wisconsin.
Lola was a gifted and compassionate special education teacher who setup school special education programs and taught in this field for more than 30 years. She took a great amount of pride in her students and their accomplishments. Many of her students have remained in contact with her until life’s end.
Lola was an advanced tai chi practitioner, enjoyed her poodles and was active in her church and church studies. She missed Grand Marais and often returned to see friends and her brother, Peter.
She was a devoted wife to James; loving mother to the late Eric Lamont and Renee Stellmacher; proud grandmother of Benjamin (Daniell) Stellmacher, Briana Stellmacher and Caitlin Levno- Lamont. She took delight in her great-grandson, William Stellmacher.
She is also survived by her brother Peter (Grace) Floe and cousin Margaret (Leif) Skaarhaug in Grand Marais, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Her parents Ruth and Peter Floe preceded her in death.
Per Lola’s wishes private services will be held. A donation may be made in Lola’s name to Wisconsin Heart Hospital, 10000 W. Bluemound Road, Wauwatosa WI, 53226 for their loving care during her final days.
