Lois Catherine Schwob (nee Hagen), age 89, of Glencoe and Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021, at the Jones-Harrison Residence.
Preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Gregory and young son John Joseph (Joe), older siblings, Beatrice Hahn, Ruth Jacobs, Harold, and Donald. She is survived by: Timothy Schwob (Barbara), Joseph and Campbell; Matthew Schwob (Catherine), Martha Kennedy (Layne), Croix, Brooks, and Austin; Peter Schwob (Amanda), Jordan and August; Paul Schwob (Brenda), Adam and Meghan; Simon Schwob (Patty), Thomas and Elizabeth. And many relatives and friends.
Lois was known for her deep devotion to friends and family, warm smile, and unending hospitality. Her door was always open, either at home in Minneapolis or on Maple Hill near Grand Marais, where she and her husband John built their beloved one-room log cabin. Lois loved exploring the North Shore with John and enjoyed the simplicity of life outside. Lois and John also traveled the world and encouraged their children to do the same. She was always ready to share a meal, a cold drink, and a story, or her opinions on making the world a better place. Coming from a large family, then raising six children, Lois was always ready to, unofficially, add to her clan and would chuckle on the less-than-rare occasions when her children’s friends would ask, “Could you adopt me?”
Lois and John were also strong supporters of many causes and organizations in which they believed. Some included Minnesota Public Radio, Twin Cities Public Television, WTIP Radio in Grand Marais, Minneapolis Public Library, Grand Marais Public Library, The North House Folk School in Grand Marais, the Guthrie Theatre, and the Minnesota Orchestra.
A Celebration of Life will be on Friday, October 22, at noon. A reception will follow.
