A semi-trailer hauling a load of pine logs, driven by CoLee Johnson, 23, of Hovland, overturned while turning onto the Gunflint Trail from Highway 61 in Grand Marais in the early hours of the morning on August 8, 2013.

Witnesses said it appeared something broke on the vehicle trailer, pulling Johnson’s truck sharply to the left. When the trailer hit the curb, it overturned, pulling the truck cab with it and letting loose the big logs.

Johnson was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. However, the rollover knocked down the rock cairn “Welcome to Grand Marais” sign.

The Grand Marais Fire Department was paged at 6:20 a.m. to ensure that there was no fire or hazardous material danger. The fire department set up containment for spilled fuel.

The accident is under investigation.
