Log rolling is back!

It is log rolling season again and time to start “spinning the cedar” before Fisherman’s Picnic! World champion log roller Jenny Atkinson is offering free classes and a tournament.

The local youth tournament presented by the Grand Marais Lions Club, WoodMizer and Central Boiler will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 during Fisherman’s Picnic.

To help participants prepare, free lessons will be held at the Grand Marais Municipal Swimming Pool every Tuesday in July from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Tournament entry forms will be available at the pool.

There will also be free practice sessions for log rolling and boom running at the home of Jenny and Niel Atkinson on Clearwater Lake on Thursday, July 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

During Fisherman’s Picnic, on July 30 and 31, kids may buy a $5 pass and practice in the tank downtown all day for a final warm-up before the Fisherman’s Picnic tournament.
