If jumping into Lake Superior’s cold, freezing waters in February is on your “Bucket” list, then you are in luck! You can join with more than a dozen fearless Cook County residents to take that perilous leap for a good cause.
No?
Common sense tells you that you will turn into a frozen human popsicle in a very short period of time.
Still, that trepidation isn’t stopping 13 brave souls from Cook County from participating in the Special Olympics of Minnesota Polar Plunge.
The chilly fundraiser will be held in February 2023 at Park Point in Duluth, and Bryann Bockovich couldn’t be happier.
Bockovich is organizing the Cook County contingent. She has participated in 12 Special Olympic polar plunges. In the beginning, she joined with her best friend Linda McClellan, who can no longer make the leap anymore, but said, Bryann, “I still do it for her daughter.”
After each plunge, Bryann celebrates by getting a tattoo.
“This year, I am getting the Special Olympics motto: Let me win, if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt!”
So, where do the proceeds go?
“One hundred percent of the donations we raise goes directly to the Special Olympic athletes,” said Bockovich.
