Five locals will attend the national Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21, the day after the presidential inauguration.

Pat Campanaro, Rena Rogers, Mary Lou Sorensen, Denny FitzPatrick, and Mary Sanders will join more than 200,000 others to advance social and economic justice and equality.

A grandmother in Hawaii, showing that one person can make a difference, proposed this call to action. The official website states: “As dedicated Americans, we march together in solidarity for the protection, dignity, and rights of all, especially our marginalized communities.”

Pat Campanaro added, “I am marching for my six-year-old granddaughter, Helena. Women deserve equal rights, and the possibility exists that this administration will roll back the rights I fought so hard to get in the ‘70s. These rights include reproductive choice, and the right to earn the same wage as a man doing the same job.”

Other residents of Cook County plan to attend a “sister march” in St. Paul. At least 370 similar marches are planned around the nation and the world.
