MaeAnna LaFavor of Hovland is raising her hand to be part of governance in action. MaeAnna, a junior at Cook County High School, has been selected to join Girl Scouts from around the nation at the 53rd National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah in mid-October. The national convention happens once every three years.
As an elected delegate, MaeAnna is studying the issues raised by Girl Scout members around the nation. She will participate in debate before voting on proposals that influence the future direction of the Girl Scout Movement.
MaeAnna is a Girl Scout Ambassador, having progressed through all the levels of Girl Scouts—Daisy, Brownie, Junior and Cadet. MaeAnna has completed several community projects to obtain her Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. She is a member of Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines and is just one of five elected delegates representing northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
In addition to the governance portion of the meeting, the expected 6,000-plus attendees at the convention will attend sessions designed to celebrate, motivate and inspire. Prominent speakers will be featured. MaeAnna will explore topics trending in today’s society and the impact those have on girls and Girl Scouting. The discussions will form the basis of continuing dialogue throughout the next triennium. Topics include faith, diversity, leadership, and issues important to girls.
There will also be live entertainment and as there is at any Girl Scout activity, the opportunity to make friends.
The mission of Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
