On January 24, 14 swimmers from Cook County attended the YMCA Northern Sectional swim meet held in Brainerd, Minnesota. They competed with swimmers from Duluth, Brainerd, Grand Rapids, and Superior. The Northern Sectional team is part of the Minnesota YMCA Swim League. Twenty-two other teams from across Minnesota make up this league.
At the Brainerd event, each of the four sections held a meet and the top three competitors from each race plus the next four fastest from across the state will advance to the State meet held at the University of Minnesota on Sunday, February 8.
All of the swimmers worked really hard this season and had some great swims at Sections. Many swimmers dropped time, tried new events, and seven swimmers that placed in the top 5 at Sections will advance onto the State Meet. Going to the State Meet will be Ole Sorenson, Henry DeArruda Weaver, Tanner DeBoer, Tristan Surbaugh, Will Surbaugh, Martine Redshaw and Shaelyn Hingos as a wild card. They will compete in 19 events.
Other participants in the meet were Malin Anderson, Chloe Blackburn, Olivia Nesgoda- Works, Louise Ramberg, Aurora Schelmeskee, Lexi Surbaugh and Mary June Wharton.
