In addition to providing scholarships to eight members of the Cook County High School Class of 2015, the board of directors of the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation recently announced the recipients of scholarship renewals.
A renewal scholarship is considered by the board for all recipients of the post-secondary school scholarship that have, through the academic year, continued as a full-time student at Lake Superior College in Duluth; maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0 or above; and maintained satisfactory academic progress including completing all credits within the semester.
The renewal scholarship pays for all tuition, fees, books and supplies required for classes for another academic year at Lake Superior College. A second renewal includes the above criteria but is for one academic semester beginning fall 2015.
Jonathan Jacobsen, Breana Peterson, Jacob Schroeder and Parker Slanga received a scholarship renewal.
Receiving a second renewal are Stephanie Fenstad-Lashinski, Deedra Mongan, Michael Taylor, Zachary Taylor and Jade Wolke.
Making the announcement of the renewals was Joan Gardner-Goodno, who said “The Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation board of directors and staff congratulates these students on this achievement and wishes them all the best as they pursue their academic goals.”
The scholarship award is in honor of the Foundation’s founder, Lloyd K. Johnson who passed away in 2006 at the age of 97. Johnson was born in Grand Marais and graduated from Cook County High School in 1925. The scholarship award helps to fulfill the mission of the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation to “enhance educational opportunities in Cook County and to significantly improve the quality of life in the North Shore communities of Cook, Lake and southern St. Louis counties through competitive grant making in the areas of Arts and Culture, Community and Economic Development, Education, the Environment and Social Welfare programs to qualified nonprofit organizations.”
