Vallen Cook of Grand Portage, a sophomore at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, was among approximately 170 students who traveled across the United States and the world for the college’s annual Spring Service Projects March 5-14.
Cook will travel to Gulfport, Mississippi on a team that will help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Spring service project members raise their own travel funds.
“Spring Service Projects give students an opportunity to see God at work in the world and to serve and share their faith with others,” said Dr. Tommy Moon, Northwestern’s director of missions. “Experiences like this are an important part of spiritual formation.”
Northwestern College is a Christian college of nearly 1,250 students in Orange City, Iowa. Rated the nation’s second best baccalaureate college by Washington Monthly and top-10 Midwestern college by U.S. News & World Report, Northwestern provides an education that combines academic rigor with a faith perspective.
Vallen is a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of Sharon Morrison of Grand Portage. He is majoring in Christian education and youth ministry.
