Local Republican GOP didn’t endorse anyone

After reading the October 31 ‘As I See It’ column’s second paragraph, I feel it is imperative to further discuss those few sentences.

‘Transparency’ needs clarity and accuracy also!

The referred-to meeting was never meant to be a secret anything, and never was presented that way.

The Cook County GOP Basic Political Operating Unit (BPOU), as well as the DFL BPOUs in Minnesota, are entities that are encouraged and set up to bring forth, through grassroots efforts, candidates for local offices. They can become local school board, county commissioner, and city council members. State senators and House reps, and US senate and congressional candidates are then also made ‘official’ through an endorsement process.

The meeting wasn’t meant to be a new endorsement of any candidate who showed up, but a ‘Meet and Greet’ for getting to know the Minnesota GOP Chair, and candidates running for election in Minnesota and Cook County. The Cook County GOP chair was the facilitator of the meeting, and had been part of the endorsement process for Minnesota Rep Candidate Manninen. The Minnesota GOP chair was the first featured speaker, and was not there to give a Minnesota GOP endorsement to anyone.
