There were a lot of smiling faces at the Hub (Senior Center) on Friday, March 4 as Ann Marie Mershon handed out checks to a wide variety of representatives from area non-profits.
In all, The First & Second Thrift Store donated $95,000.
“Although we had a profit of well over $110,000 this year, our new board voted to donate $95,000 so we have a cushion for the costs of our move. The payout comes to $20.86 per hour. with 4,553 volunteer hours and 43 total volunteers,” Mershon said.
Volunteers direct their “earnings” to whatever church, charity, club, school or non-profit they desire, as long as the donation stays in the county.
Hamilton Habitat received the largest donation at $13,576. For those that don’t know about Hamilton Habitat, Anna and Sarah Hamilton build affordable housing for lower income people in the county on their free time from their regular jobs. And no, the sisters aren’t rich, so the money meant a lot to them.
But then, the checks large and small meant a lot to all of the recipients.
