The 37th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon will start this Sunday as the mushers leave from Duluth and run over hill and dale to the finish line at Grand Portage. This year, no spectators will be allowed at the start or finish line because of COVID-19 protocols. Spectators are encouraged to follow the mushers and dogs by tracking the race teams by logging onto beargrease.com and WDIO-TV.
More than 70 mushers are entered across the three races. Locally, seven mushers and their teams have signed up and will compete.
Running the Beargrease 300 are two Cook County women, Erin Altemus and Mary Manning. They will compete against racers from Alaska and across the snowy continental lower 48. All musher photos courtesy of John Beargrease Committee.
