No, this isn’t an anti-tax story. On Tuesday, November 28 local leaders will be arrested and placed in a makeshift jail at the YMCA. Their only way out will be to raise money for bail. The money will be dedicated to the Youth and Government program, which will use those funds to attend a general assembly in the Twin Cities in January.
Minnesota’s YMCA Youth and Government is a program that emphasizes the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The program originated in Albany, New York in 1936 and the first Model Assembly came to Minnesota in 1946.
According to its mission statement, “It is the mission of Minnesota YMCA Youth in Government programs to develop personal growth and encourage lifelong, responsible citizenship by providing experiential learning for young people and by providing public forums to recognize the abilities of youth.”
