The Grand Marais Public Library, Library Friends of Cook County, and Sawtooth Mountain Clinic will again collaborate with their “Books for Babies” program. The program offers the parents of every infant born in Cook County a reusable library tote, library card application, early literacy information and recommendations, and a brand new board book. Sawtooth Mountain Clinic RN and outreach coordinator Teresa Borak distributes the packages to Cook County’s new families and babies.
This year’s title, chosen by Grand Marais Public Library’s juvenile librarian Anne Prinsen, is Nikki McClure’s Awake to
Nap,
published by Sasquatch Books in 2006. “The illustrations by McClure are cut from a single black piece of paper using an X-Acto knife, and the result is glorious,” says Prinsen. “It’s the exact high contrast that a little one can focus on and be intrigued by. Awake to Nap
is a lovely, tender book written by an author and illustrator who is unmistakably both a great mind and a loving mother.” This title is also included in the Grand Marais Public Library’s board book collection.
The collaboration is fully funded by the Library Friends of Cook County with no charge to recipients.
