Thanks to a grant from the local Lioness Club, Cook County High School seniors are working on a book project designed to preserve essays, poems and original photographs honoring people, places and events that have been sources of personal inspiration.

The project was designed with the goals of aiding students’ writing and photography to carry strong voices and vivid images; students’ individual personalities; and as educational tools to be used for future generations of students.

The seniors created a series of personal writings about their sources of inspiration in English class and had assistance from the art, business, and special education departments. Artists Karen Smaby and Sue Robinson worked with the seniors to make each book, and Ivy Church helped on the writing and photography aspects of the project.

Original photography was also used to enhance their writings. The books will be displayed in May on the night of the spring band concert.

This project was supported by the Lions and Lioness Clubs, the Northwoods Fiber Guild, and the Grand Portage Casino.
