Local delegates attend Republican BPOU state central meeting

In St. Cloud on April 29, Mary Petz as the Cook County GOP delegate and Ben Petz as the alternate attended the Republican Party of Minnesota State Central Committee (SCC) meeting held to select party leadership.

Jennifer Carnahan was elected chair, and Dave Pascoe elected deputy chair. Jennifer ran a campaign to unify the party and bring about new growth and opportunity. “The Republican party is the party of opportunity. Even people who come from humble roots can achieve great things in our party,” she said. The 40-year-old was adopted from South Korea and grew up in Maple Grove.

The new chair has a background in business, and said one of her main goals is to change the perception of the Republican party. “Our party puts family budgets ahead of government budgets, focusing on real solutions for education, rights and privacy, healthcare, energy, and economic growth. We are actually a very inclusive party that wants everyone in life to succeed.”

Jennifer hit the ground running on Monday, May 1 with initiatives around fundraising, marketing and messaging and plans for winning elections in 2018. She said, “We have to focus on fundraising and make sure we have a financially strong party for the future.”

David Pascoe visited the Cook County GOP Basic Political Organization Unit (BPOU) convention on February 13, and impressed and inspired the local attendees. David is a licensed attorney and lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He is the former chairman and treasurer of the CD 5 Republican party. He was also heavily involved with his local BPOU before that, serving as chairman of SD 60. He said, “I will ensure that vital support is delivered to our BPOUs all over the state. Managing the endorsing process through the caucuses to the convention, improving our data, and strengthening the relationships between county/ district organizations and the headquarters will help point us all in the right direction.”

Barb Sutter is back for a second term as party secretary, and has worked to grow and develop connectivity with affiliate groups. The SCC approved a new Somali-American Affiliate Saturday along with reapproving eight other active affiliates.
