If you support the health, emotional, and financial benefits of breastfeeding, then be on the lookout for pink and blue breastfeeding support pins at Cook County businesses August 1-7. Those dates coincide with World Breastfeeding Week, celebrated in 170 countries around the world.
“If you are breastfeeding, have breastfed, were breastfed as a baby, have children who were breastfed, and/or support a mother in breastfeeding,” said breastfeeding advocate Angie Works, “please grab a pin and display it proudly during the week and show your support to the community.”
A breastfeeding support group meets the first Monday of each month from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the lower level classroom of Sawtooth Mountain Clinic. Its regular meeting on August 1 will kick off Cook County’s celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, sponsored by the local Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
The worldwide celebration will focus on reaching out to youth – the next up-and-coming generation of breastfeeding mothers and supporters – to communicate about breastfeeding.
