Lake Superior Magazine’s 2018 reader’s choice “Best of the Lake” awards went to several area businesses and favorite places to stop.
The annual survey was gathered from readers, online supporters, and social media followers. Winners of the 13 categories were listed for each state: Michigan, Minnesota, Ontario, and Wisconsin.
Winners are posted in the August/September edition.
In Minnesota the Best Reader’s Choice award went to World’s Best Donuts as the place to stop for coffee and lunch. Lutsen Mountains Alpine Slide & Gondola won for the best “ride with a view in the Great Lakes region.”
Angry Trout Cafe was voted the best café/restaurant for Minnesota, coming in ahead of Betty’s Pies in Two Harbors and Rustic Inn Café and Grandma’s Saloon & Deli.
Voters selected Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior as the best overnight lodging place to stay.
Best “Locally Made” store turned into a three-way tie between the Lake Superior Trading Post and Sivertson’s Art Gallery in Grand Marais and Duluth Pack in Duluth. Joynes Ben Franklin was also listed.
High Falls of Pigeon River in Grand Portage was runner-up to Gooseberry Falls in Two Harbors as the best Minnesota waterfall.
Temperance River State Park in Schroeder was named second best one-hour stop along the route.
Voyageur Brewing was selected runner-up to Castle Danger Brewery in Two Harbors in the Best Brewery/ Distillery/Cocktail Bar category.
The best “Doggy Destination” was Brighton Beach in Duluth with Artist Point, and nearby Gunflint Trail ranked second.
