Local artists and organizations receive grants from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council



Several Cook County artists and organizations were awarded grants from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council on September 20, 2018.

Arts Learning

North Shore Music Association of Grand Marais was awarded a $5,000 Arts Learning grant to support the 28th Annual Bluegrass Masters Weekend at Lutsen Resort. Three days of small-group jamming around the lodge, one full day of vocal workshops with vocalist Valerie Smith, and a concert from Valerie Smith and her band Liberty Pike.

Melissa Wickwire of Grand Marais was awarded a $5,000 Arts Learning grant to support Clay Club, a free after school opportunity for youth to learn, grow, express themselves, and connect with others through the complex and creative process of ceramic arts.

Rural and Community Art Project

Good Harbor Hill Players of Grand Marais was awarded a $5,000 Rural and Community Art Project grant to support the Good Harbor Hills Players 2018 Winter Solstice Shadow Puppet performance, an original shadow puppet performance with live music for the occasion of the winter solstice, December 21, 2018.

Artist Access

Michael Smieja of Grand Marais was awarded a $1,000 Artist Access Grant for support to build a reduction kiln for firing pottery.

Art Project

North Shore Music Association of Grand Marais was awarded a $4,990 Art Project Grant to support Kansas City Blues, R&B, and Boogie-Woogie singer and keyboardist Kelley Hunt as she performs in concert with her band at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais on July 13, 2019.

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council is a regional nonprofit that has been encouraging local arts development in northeastern Minnesota through arts funding and services for over 35 years.
