The board of directors of the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation is pleased to announce the 2010 recipients of the scholarship awards of the Lloyd K. Johnson Post-Secondary School Scholarship. The scholarship award pays for all tuition, fees and books for one academic year at Lake Superior College in Duluth, with opportunity for a second year renewal scholarship based on academic performance.

Four seniors graduating from Cook County High School are the 2010 award recipients: Cody Anderson, Christian Cole, Skyler Johnson, and Haley Ruhanen.

The foundation is also pleased to announce the previous award winners that have had his or her scholarship renewed to pay for all tuition, fees, and books for another academic year. Taylor Baham has received a scholarship for another year and Mary Edson, Casey Kimball, and Lea Leonard have all received a second renewal to continue their education at Lake Superior College.

The scholarship award is in honor of the foundation’s founder, Lloyd K. Johnson, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 97. Johnson was born in Grand Marais and graduated from Cook County High School in 1925. The scholarship award helps to fulfill the mission of the Lloyd K Johnson Foundation to “enhance educational opportunities in Cook County and to significantly improve the quality of life in the North Shore communities of Cook, Lake and southern St. Louis counties through competitive grant making in the areas of Arts and Culture, Community and Economic Development, Education, the Environment and Social Welfare programs to qualified nonprofit organizations.”
