Jacqueline (Jackie) Flocken, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the North Shore Care Center in Grand Marais, Minnesota.
Jackie was born February 16, 1921 to Leonard and Delores (Edman) Hanson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Both of Jackie’s parents died before she was eleven years old. Family for Jackie and her brother, Bruce, became primarily maternal aunt and uncle Dr. Miland and Mrs. Julie Knapp, and their four daughters, Julie Ann Schultz, Marnee (Chuck) Schultz, Priscilla (Don) Sension, and Beverly Knapp. Jackie always treasured her cousins as her own sisters.
Jackie married Frank Flocken on October 7, 1947. Frank repeatedly and gladly affirms that Jackie was the best thing that happened in his life, and 62 years was just too short. According to Frank, “We helped each other through many problems. She was a real wonderful woman.” Jackie and Frank adopted two children, Bonnie and John, and have three grand children— Danae (Russ) Yohonn, Dustin and Ryan Flocken, and three great-grandchildren— Justin, Darren, and Evelyn Yohonn.
Frank and Jackie moved to Grand Marais from Riverside, Californina in 1990. They missed the change of seasons and the North Shore they had visited often in earlier years. They weathered many seasons and many storms together in their log home on the Croftville Road where Jackie loved the diamond willow art her husband created and where she entertained the many friends they loved dearly.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, her aunt and uncle, her brother, her daughter and her son.
A memorial service for Jackie will be held at Cornerstone Community Church, 1 Cedar Grove Lane, Grand Marais, on Saturday August 15, 2009 at 1:00 PM.
Cremation services were provided by the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
