James H. Hill, 81, Hibbing, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at his home after battling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Jim was born in Duluth to Laino and Anna (Nicolaison) Hill on July 25, 1933. He lived on the Iron Range until age 8 then moved to Grand Marais until 1952.
Jim was an Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Bell Telephone after 28 years of service. After his retirement he worked in private telephone repair and with Power Product Services for five years.
He enjoyed fishing, especially trout fishing on Lake Superior, moose and deer hunting, and camping.
Due to the rarity of his disease, Jim had made arrangements to have his body donated to the U of M Research Center in Minneapolis.
James and his wife Rosemary would have celebrated their 41st anniversary on December 1, 2014. Rosemary followed Jim, passing away at home early in the morning of December 8, 2014.
Jim will be missed by children, Donald (Ellie) Hill, Lakeville, Minnesota, Debbie (Arnold) Lundstrom, Tower, Minnesota, Mark (Gina) Rathbun, Elk River, Minnesota, Dennis (Kris) Hill, Embarrass, Minnesota, Dorie Hill, Superior, Wisconsin, Lori Laliberte, Hibbing, Minnesota, Lynn (Henry) Erkelenz, Hibbing, and James (Cheryl) Hill Jr., Brighton, Colorado; grandchildren, Joey, Sarah, Theresa, Heather, Lisa, Hallie, Maggie, Adam, Alec, Ashley, Damian, Michael, Jaymie, Eric, Nicole, Nick, Austin, Josh, Lauren, Tyler, Victoria, and Morgan; several great grandchildren; his brother, Richard (Patty) Hill, Cedar, Minnesota; brothers in law, James (Donna) Mehle, Hibbing, Michael (Jan) Mehle, Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Bobby (Jayme) Mehle, Maple Grove, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mary Ann Hanson and Phillip Hill and grandson Jason Laliberte. Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 in the Dougherty Funeral Home with Chaplain Bonnie Schandorf officiating. Military Honors were accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Ely Cemetery at a later date.

Carl Walter Fritsch, age 86, of Edina and formerly of Lutsen, Plymouth and Roseville, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014.
Carl graduated from Blackburn College and earned a Ph. D. from Ohio State University. Carl was a chemist with General Mills for 38 years.
He is survived by beloved wife Carol; children, Nancy, Carl, Mike and Tim; grandchildren, Ben, Allison, Josie, Jackie; siblings, Doris, Robert, Marion, Tom, Albert, Hank and Bill.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 4801 France Avenue South, Minneapolis; reception to follow.
