Everett Raeburn Bushman
Jr.,
born January 30, 1929 in Canby, Minnesota to Everett and Doris Bushman, passed away November 30, 2010 in Tacoma, Washington.

After spending his childhood in Canby, Minnesota, Everett’s family moved to Grand Marais in 1941 where his father and grandfather owned and operated the local hardware store. As a student of Cook County High School, Everett enjoyed playing on the basketball team. After graduating in 1947, Everett attended McPhail School of Music (McPhail Center of Music) in Minneapolis. Everett served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict between 1952 and 1954. Shortly thereafter, he met and married his loving wife, Sharon, and returned to Grand Marais to work with his father in the hardware business and raise their family.

Everett was a dedicated citizen of the Grand Marais community as a member of the Library Board and Johnson Heritage Post, a founding member of the Summer Jazz Series, and an actor in the Community Theatre. He was an excellent clarinetist, participating in the Community Orchestra and a classical music quintet. He had a particular love of jazz and especially enjoyed playing in his jazz group, the Superior Jazz Band. Everett was an avid gardener, and pursued his interests in oil painting, woodworking, boating, fishing, skiing and scuba diving. He was at home on the lakes and in the woods of northern Minnesota. Due to his declining health, he and Sharon moved to Gig Harbor, Washington, in 1996.

Everett is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Sr. and Doris, and his brother, David.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Sharon A. Fick Bushman of Gig Harbor; his son, Bradley Bushman of Seattle; his daughters Ann (Charles) Morningstar of Gig Harbor and Jennifer (Bill) Reed of Big Sky, Montana; his grandchildren Natalie and Connor Morningstar and Samantha Bushman; and his brother Michael Bushman of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and his sister-inlaw, Jean Anderson Bushman of Grand Marais, Minnesota.

Memorial Services were held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Haven of Rest Funeral Home, Gig Harbor. A gathering for friends and family will also take place in Grand Marais during the summer of 2011. Remembrances may be made in Everett’s name to Johnson Heritage Post, 115 West Wisconsin St., PO Box 35, Grand Marais, MN 55604, (218) 387-2314.
