John “Denny” Rask
of Hibbing, 80, passed away at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2010.

John was born May 25, 1930, in Duluth, the son of the late Roy and Ella Rask. He grew up in Payne, Minn., and attended high school in Meadowlands. John was a proud member of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea.

On Sept. 11, 1954, he married Joanne Monson of Tofte. John was employed at Erie Mining Company for 35 years. He loved to deer hunt, duck hunt, fish, and snowmobile. John also loved their cabin of 46 years on Lake Eshquagama.

John was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hibbing, and prior a member of the United Church of Christ in Biwabik. John was a 50-plusyear member and past master of the Biwabik Masonic Lodge No. 293 AF&AM, a 35-plusyear member of the Aad Temple Shrine, and a 50-plusyear member of the Peterson- Lofquist-Bronczyk American Legion Post No. 160 in Biwabik.

John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne Rask of Hibbing; two sons, Mike Rask of Appleton, Wis., and Roger (Shelley) Rask of Hibbing; one daughter, Donna (Greg) Hoag of Hibbing; one sister, Dorothy Reed of Kennewick, Wash.; and six grandchildren, Jennifer (fiancé Mike Lueder) Rask of Crystal Lake, Ill., Christine Rask of Hibbing, Brittany Rask of Appleton, Wis., and Ryan, Kyle, and Sara Hoag of Hibbing.

A celebration of John’s life was held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing on Nov. 15 with Pastor Erik Holleque officiating.
