Paul Kermit Carlsen Sr.,
78, Schroeder, died Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Sunrise Home in Two Harbors with his family at his side.
He was born February 18, 1931 to Thor and Mathilda (Pedersen) Carlsen in Two Harbors, and was a lifelong resident of the North Shore. He attended schools in Cook County, and then worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Paper, Zenith Dredge, Ulland Brothers, Hunkin Arundel and Dixon, Hunkin-Conkey, Temperance River State Park and Bay Construction. Kermit also operated the Pure Oil Service Station in Schroeder and was self-employed as a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was a member of Teamsters Local #346. Kermit and his wife, Margaret, were founding members of the Schroeder Area Historical Society.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Alma; and a brother, Carl Carlsen.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Paul (Tamara) Carlsen of Alexandria; a daughter, Julie (Mike) Peters of Duluth; grandchildren, Melissa Moulton, Paul K. Carlsen III “Duke”, Ashley Carlsen, and Maggie Peters; great-grandchildren, Aleah, Kelsey, Isaac, Josiah Thor, and Ellianna.
Visitation was Monday, January 11, 2010 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, and services were Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Schroeder Town Hall, followed by burial in Schroeder Cemetery.
Judy Kathleen (Anderson)

66, of Coeur d’Alene, ID died the morning of December 22, 2009 at Kootenai Medical Center after an extended illness. Judy was born March 20, 1943 in Grand Marais to Alma (Linnell) Anderson and H. Oliver Anderson. She was the youngest of the eight children in this family. She grew up in Grand Marais and graduated from Cook County High School.
Judy married Mel Spelde September 4, 1965 in Grand Marais. Judy and Mel had one daughter, Jennifer in 1973. Judy and Mel later divorced.
Judy was a stay-at-home mother to Jennifer for many years. During that time, she also worked as a color consultant for Beauty for All Seasons and as a bookkeeper for Empire Airlines. She later went to work full-time at Empire Airlines in the Human Resources department. Judy retired in 2003.
Judy lived in Grand Marais; Duluth; Thunder Bay, Canada; Minneapolis; and Orofino, ID before she moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1981. She spent most of her life in Coeur d’Alene where she was very involved at Trinity Lutheran Church.
She loved to travel, enjoyed crafts of all sorts, and had become an accomplished quilter. Judy liked to be busy and volunteered much of her time sharing her many talents with the church, Coeur d’Alene Homes Auxiliary’s Trading Post, and CASA.
Judy is survived by her brother Don (Lyn) Anderson of Orofino, ID and daughter Jennifer (Derek) Orkney of Seattle, WA; nieces Susan Shaffer, Pamela Ponting, Doris Ann Lamoureux; nephews Craig and Jim Sturm, Arthur, David, Tim, Jon, Ron, and Dan Anderson, and Jim Swanson. She has a number of great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Gladys and Ruby Anderson.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. Her wishes were to be buried in Grand Marais at the Maple Hill cemetery along with her parents and brothers and sisters who preceded her in death.
