Sharon Ann (Bushman)
Vogel
passed away November 10, 2009 in Grand Marais after struggling with cancer.
She was born June 7, 1937 in Cloquet, Minnesota; she lived in Grand Portage growing up, returning again in 1981. As a young woman she moved to Tucson, Arizona with her family. There she met, fell in love with and married Robert J. Vogel Sr. in 1954. Robert (Bob) had a career in the Air Force. The couple spent many years crisscrossing the United States with their seven children. In addition to raising a family she also worked as a seamstress and as a nurse’s aide.
Her love of and faith in God was strong. She was a devoted Catholic and loyally served the church in a number of capacities. Sharon was an outstanding beadwork artist. She was soft-spoken, gentle, and kind. She loved strolling along the beach collecting rocks, camping, fishing, playing cards and bingo.
The power went out recently as it often does in these parts. While looking for candles or a flashlight, it was noticed that she had the largest and most complete assortment of bingo daubers on record. She was a collector of rocks, coins, stray animals, beanie babies and the hearts of all who knew her.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert, son John, sister Penny, and a brother LeRoy.
She is survived by daughters Laura (Felix) Heit- Youngbird of Breckenridge, Minnesota, Donna (Richard) Anderson of Holt, Florida, Ellen Altman of Grand Portage, and sons Robert (Jeanne) Vogel Jr. of Grand Portage, Samuel (Teresa) Vogel of Grand Portage, William (Ella) Vogel of Grand Portage; grandchildren Daniel (Janine), Jesse, Jaime (Aaron), Josie, Ladean (Scott), Michael, Anthony (Michelle), Matthew, Andrea (Jeremy), Zachary (Heather), Jeremy, Tina (Jason), Timothy, Nathan, John; and great grandchildren: Nathan, Isabelle, Venus, Gavin, Justin, Adam, Jaden, Olivia, Makayla, Alisa, Dakota, Carissa and Kiara.
