Lives Remembered





 

 

Jon Steven Kettunen,
48, Grand Marais, died at St. Luke’s Hospital on November 7, 2009.

Jon was born to Ken and Phyllis Kettunen in St. Cloud, Minnesota on September 8, 1961. He attended school in Grand Rapids and graduated from Grand Rapids High School. He also attended Itasca Community College for two years.

He worked at the family business, the Cook County
News-Herald,
for over 20 years. He worked as a typesetter and was the photo editor. He also operated the photoprocessing lab. He will always be remembered for the awesome wildlife and scenery photographs that graced the pages of the News-Herald.

Jon will also be remembered as the state record holder for Menominee whitefish with a Lake Superior catch of 21 inches and 2 pounds 7.5 ounces. The whitefish also made the world record book.

Jon recently attended taxidermy school in Wisconsin and began offering taxidermy services through his own business, Arrowhead Taxidermy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Kettunen.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis of Grand Marais; brother Hal (Deidre); daughter Kaylee of Two Harbors; niece, Carrie (Pete) Czerwony of West Chester, PA; nephews Andrew and Nathan of Grand Marais; and great-nephews Gaige and Hunter of West Chester, PA; and special friend Theresa Farnum of Grand Marais.

Jon loved spending time in the woods and on the water, hunting and fishing.

A family memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.
