Lives Remembered





 

 

Laina A. Silver,
91, formerly of Schroeder, Minnesota, passed away at St Luke’s Hospital in Duluth on Friday, October 9, 2009.

She was born in Aurora, Minnesota, on April 5, 1918, to John and Sauna Lisa Ali. The family later moved to the North Shore’s Finland where she was raised. She married Robert Silver on October 18, 1941. They settled in Schroeder where he founded the Cross River Lumber Company and she was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake and take care of her family.

Laina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Robert; brothers, Matti and John of Finland, Europe; sisters, Lillie Ali, Lynne Hoffman, Lydia Gralewski, and Elizabeth Hagberg.

Laina is survived by her daughters, Roberta Walski and her husband John of Duluth, and Diane Silver of Duluth; a granddaughter, Dr. Sabrina Walski-Easton and her husband Evan; a great grandson, Ewan of the Twin Cities; a cousin, Ernest Tammi, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Drs. Sanford, Kleinschmidt, Kamper and Lund, the staff of Aftenro Home and the Benedictine Health Center for their care and support.

Private memorial services will be held with burial at the Schroeder Cemetery, arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.

Ron R. Theisen,
61, Lutsen, Minnesota, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving wife and children, after a yearlong battle with colon cancer.

He was born January 8, 1948 to Andrew and Cathryn (Colby) Theisen in Minneapolis, where he grew up and graduated from South High.

Ron remained in the Cities raising his daughter Nicole. In 1981 he married Linda Swanson and shortly after moved to Lutsen where he worked for Irv Hansen and Cook County Highway Department for many years. He was an active member of Lutsen Evangelical Lutheran Church, served on the Lutsen Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and was an active member of the community. He loved life on the North Shore and will always be remembered as “Daddy Ron,” the one who helped others whatever the need.

He is preceded in death by his father, sister Connie Green, and son Jacob.

Ron is survived by his wife Linda, son Kade, daughters Minna and Nicole (Perry) Wells, mother Cathryn Theisen, brothers Ken (Marylou), Mike (Mary) and Joe (Cathy), and sisters Kay (Jim), Rose and Ruth, and many nieces and nephews.

A Gathering of Family and Friends was held one hour before the memorial service on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Lutsen Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Lutsen Cemetery. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.
