Each spring the Cook County High School College Literature class travels to the Twin Cities to experience professional theater. This year the class attended the opening night of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly at the Ordway Theater in St. Paul and a matinee of Time Stands Still by Don Margulies at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.
The group enjoyed a private tour of the new Guthrie Theater before the show and enjoyed learning about the special features in the building such as the “Eternal Bridge” with glass in the floor and the ceiling. The tinted glass throughout the theater building adds a special atmosphere to the place.
Proceeds from Theater Sports helped to fund the trip. Under the expert coaching of Director Michael McHugh, this year the students’ Theater Sports teams raised more than $1,200.
Students who participated in the trip were David Bergstrom, Michaela Buchheit, Ashley Deschampe, Alex Ditmanson, Sarah Fagerman, Bekah Laky, Lauren Murray, Cecelia Olsen, Clara Olsen, Dylan Quaife, Ashley Ross, Michael Sjogren, Annika Stone, Bradley VanDoren and Molly Zafft. Several adults accompanied the students.
