Lions host CERT discussion

Cook County Emergency Management Director Jim Wiinanen, together with volunteer Tyler Howell, made a presentation recently to the Grand Marais Lions at Sven and Ole’s on Broadway. The presentation focused on family emergencies and what to do when the bad thing happens.

In addition, they presented an outline of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. This program consists of seven sessions totaling 20 hours of training which is available free throughout Cook County and will be scheduled for January and February. The cost to individuals is only their time, and some sessions will be available on TV screens in outlying communities. A number of Lions signed up as interested in taking the course.

In an additional area of concern Wiinanen suggested that the Lions prepare an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) with respect to its Fisherman’s Picnic program. He indicated that other groups have such plans in place and that he would be willing to help prepare such a plan for the Fisherman’s Picnic.
