After the hustle and bustle of Fisherman’s Picnic and the Cook County Fair, the Grand Marais Lions and Lioness Clubs finally take some time to relax during their annual steak fry at Gunflint Hills Golf Course in Grand Marais.

On Aug. 24, the Lions played a round of golf and enjoyed a steak dinner prepared by the Lions Club Master Chefs.

TheLions reviewed their summer events. This year’s Fisherman’s Picnic was great. The town was filled with families enjoying the kiddie rides, bingo, music on two stages, and a variety of events from the puppy contest to the fireworks. Top it off with beautiful weather and fish burgers from the Lions fish burger stand. “What could be better?” asked Lioness Sandra Hyne.

The Grand Marais Lions organize Fisherman’s Picnic weekend, virtually making plans all year long.

The Grand Marais Lioness Club put on a fantastic buffet dinner, coordinated a silent auction fundraiser, a bake sale during the Cook County Fair, and this year, took a couple of intense months building a Lion and Lioness float for the Fisherman’s Picnic Parade. Members of both clubs manned the Lions and Lioness booth at the Cook County Fair to assist our budding artists with rock painting.

Lion Gene Erickson and his wife, Lioness Barb Erickson were among the Lions relaxing after all the summer events.

The Lioness Club will be taking orders this October for gorgeous Georgia Pecans in time for holiday baking. Keep an eye out for a Lioness newspaper ad.

If you are a visiting Lion or Lioness, or interested in becoming a club member, call (218) 387-2832 for more information. “Help keep this tradition alive!” said Hyne.
