Members of the Grand Marais Lions and Lioness clubs celebrated Charter Night on June 8, 2010. This is a time-honored tradition of acknowledging the clubs’ beginnings and accomplishments. The clubs’ mission is to serve by contributing time, resources and skills to help fill the unmet needs of this community.
This year, the Grand Marais Lions Club is 59 years old. The Lioness Club is 32 years old. Individual members are also acknowledged at Charter Night. Virgil Lindquist and Howard Joynes were awarded 50-year membership recognition pins. Lion Paul Johnson received recognition for his 48 years of service. Hal Greenwood was applauded for bringing new members into the Lions Club.
Katie Anderson was presented with the Lioness of the Year Award for her leadership within the Lioness Club. Lioness Ethel Johnson received recognition for 25 years of service to the Lioness Club, and Lioness Bev Denyes received the Lioness Attention-getter Award.
The Birch Terrace Supper Club and the music of Bill Doucette helped make a very memorable evening.
