At the Grand Marais Lions and Lioness Charter Dinner on May 22 at the Harbor Light Supper Club, Michelle Korst was named Lioness of the Year.
Typically, it was a big surprise to Michelle, who would insist that she was only doing her part; doing what anyone would do. Lioness has historically been a hard-working and cheerful group of women, and continues to be a positive energy in our community.
But each year, the Grand Marais Lioness Club selects one among us to represent that spirit and dedication, which is a shared value.
Michelle is a relative newcomer to Lioness who immediately showed her willingness to step in to many of the organization’s activities. There is no duty for which she would not consider helping out, with her ready smile and competent hands. Her many involvements in Lioness include leading the invocation, calling members about attending current meetings, doing outreach, volunteering for many activities that are part of the Lioness service projects, and generally, always being available at a moment’s notice to do what needs to be done. How perfect is that for a Lioness of the Year?
One of Michelle’s most recent “step up and be counted moments” was when she entered the dance floor at the Charter Dinner and did an impressive, if improvisational, Lindy dance to the music of Bill Doucette. She inspired many more of us to screw up our courage and join her on the dance floor.
Congratulations to Michelle and kudos to all Grand Marais Lions and Lionesses for continuing to make a difference in our community.
