Lino Lakes man sentenced for shooting lynx

Anthony John Urbaniak, 18, Lino Lakes, Minnesota was charged with unlawfully taking small game on March 31, 2014 after an investigation by Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Darin Fagerman found that Urbaniak had shot a Canadian lynx on the Jackson Lake Road in Hovland last fall.

The maximum sentence for the misdemeanor offense is 90 days imprisonment or a fine of $1,000 or both.

Urbaniak waived his right to legal representation and trial by jury and entered a guilty plea in Cook County court on June 9, 2014. Urbaniak accepted a plea agreement to pay a $100 fine (plus mandatory surcharges and law library fee of $90) and to make restitution of $500.

In the plea agreement document, Urbaniak admitted that on October 17, 2013 he shot and killed a lynx, in violation of Minnesota DNR fish and game regulations.
