The Lighthouse Center for Vision Loss will celebrate its 100th anniversary at the second annual Dining in the Dark charity event, April 11, 2019. The Lighthouse invites guests to “awaken their senses” by attending this evening event, enjoying a gourmet meal blindfolded, and dancing to the music of Todd Eckart. The event will also feature inspirational guest speakers and highlights from the Lighthouse 100-year history.
“In celebration of our 100 years and to increase community awareness of our critical work, our goal has been to win 100 or more community sponsors for Dining in the Dark this year,” said Mary Junnila, executive director of the Lighthouse. That goal has been achieved with 18 event sponsors and more than 80 silent auction donors so far.
More support—and strong event attendance—is important to the Lighthouse, according to Junnila. “Last year 150 people attended our first annual Dining in the Dark event, which raised $14,000 in support for Lighthouse programs. This year, in our centennial year, we hope to double those figures.”
Dining in the Dark will support the growing list of Lighthouse programs that empower youth and adults with vision loss to live life to the fullest, and it will support expanded public education. Junnila explains, “The Lighthouse believes that vision loss should never be a reason for people to give up on the life they want to live. But many people affected by visual impairment don’t know what is possible and don’t know about services that can help them achieve their goals.
Dining in the Dark is designed to highlight what is possible.
The event will be held at the Greysolon Ballroom from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; tickets are $75 per person. Purchase no later than April 5. To order call 218-624-4828 or go to www.LCFVL.org.
