Two years ago Licari, Larsen & Co. purchased George Maruska’s tax planning company. This past August they acquired Maruska’s Grand Marais accounting business, as well as bought the building.
“We have enjoyed working with the local businesses and getting to know our Cook County clients,” said Nick Licari. “We decided to make a move to Grand Marais because we were already working with a number of businesses up and down the shore.”
When they purchased the building, they made the small apartment upstairs available as a vacation rental which is managed through Cascade Vacation Rentals.
Nick’s dad, Steve, founded the company in 1989 in Duluth, where they are still headquartered. Today the company is run by Nick, his brother Matt, and Terry Larsen. “My dad still participates in the business. He gets up to Grand Marais frequently,” Nick said.
The company employs 13 people, six in Duluth and seven in Grand Marais. Nick, Steve, and Terry are all Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).
“We just added Steve Fleace to the staff. He will take over some of the duties that Kelli Berg used to do before she accepted a job with the county. After Kelli left, there was a bit of a void. Steve will work with bookkeeping, payroll and assist with taxes. We also have the ability to assist with taxes in Duluth,” added Nick.
“We have successfully stayed in business for so many years because of our commitment to clients. We are very well established in Duluth and the surrounding area. Our Certified Public Accountants are here to help nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals with accounting needs,” Nick said.
“We can do auditing, tax planning, and reporting. Our accountants have the knowledge and resources to provide the public with the support that they deserve. If someone needs assistance with their taxes or business accounting, all they need to do is call or come in. We would be happy to help in any way we can.”
