The Grand Marais Public Library Board has voted to support a regional initiative sponsored by Arrowhead Library System called We’re Thankful for You! This initiative encourages area libraries to forgive fines that have been incurred by library users up to age 18 during the month of November.
Beginning November 1 through the end of the month, Grand Marais library staff will waive fines incurred by these individuals against Grand Marais Public Library owned materials. What this means to young local users is if they keep a book beyond the due date, they won’t be charged the overdue fines.
This event includes only the overdue fines, and only runs until the end of November. Fees assessed for damages, lost materials, and other purposes will continue to be collected. The library board intends to evaluate the results of this experiment in regard to the impact of library fines on our users.
