Library to host program on Grand Portage arts and crafts




On Wednesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. Bob Swanson will be giving a presentation at the Grand Marais Public Library in which he will detail some of the arts and crafts history of Grand Portage. He will also give some insights and interpretations of the present state of Ojibwe arts and crafts in the Arrowhead region.

Bob Swanson spent most of his childhood at Grand Portage and is a direct descendant of the Drouillard/Anaquad families of Grand Portage and Chippewa City. He has a long career as a poet and native artist.

Swanson also taught Native American literature, Native arts and crafts classes, and has conducted numerous workshops across the country. Born in Duluth, he taught at Heritage University in Yakima, Washington. He is an enrolled member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.
