As part of the One Book One Minnesota statewide community read, Grand Marais Public Library invites the community to sign up now for a local virtual book discussion of A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota. David Lawrence Grant, one of the book’s contributors, will facilitate the ZOOM discussion on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

A Good Time for the Truth (2016) acknowledges that Minnesota communities struggle with some of the nation’s worst racial disparities. It provides a series of essays in which Minnesota’s best writers provide a range of perspectives on what it is like to live as a Native person or person of color in Minnesota. With unflinching generosity, the authors take readers into their lives, sharing experiences that we all must understand if we are to come together in real relationships and create meaningful change. Copies of the book are available now through the library.

David Lawrence Grant has written major reports on racial bias in the justice system for the Minnesota Supreme Court and on racial disparities in the health care system for the Minnesota legislature. He has written drama for the stage, film, and television, as well as fiction and memoir. He teaches screenwriting at FilmNorth.

This program is limited to 25 participants. Please visit grandmaraislibrary.org or call 218-387-1140 to reserve your virtual seat. The Grand Marais Public Library increases knowledge, inspires creativity, removes barriers, and builds community across Cook County.
