Not long ago, our community came together and got ourselves voted “Coolest Small Town,” and some other awards. I believe we could put the same energy and effort that went into getting those done toward addressing the current COVID-19 crisis.
While ideas such as, “to help,” “social distancing,” “flattening the curve,” etc. are laudable, having actual goals is more effective since we can focus our attention on specific outcomes, and we’ll know when we get there.
I suggest that we adopt the goal of “Zero COVID-19 Cases in Cook County”, refer to that goal consistently in our communications on all levels to reinforce it, and let that goal guide our actions. That’s how the online popularity contests were won, by constant reminders of goals and calls to specific action.
Someday, when things start returning to normal (whatever that ends up being), there will be a final map produced showing numbers of cases by county. Let’s make sure that Cook County stands out once again, by being shown on that map in whatever color they designate for no confirmed cases.
