I was so hoping locals would let the topic of climate change drop. The almost panic concerning climate change is not accomplishing anything but causing extra worry.
The primary concern I have is the statement “yes, electricity might cost more but would be offset by a rebate from the government.”
They have to be kidding. Any money that goes through another entity (especially the government) has to take handling expenses. If the government, that rebate money will come from somebody’s pocket. Remember, the government should not make money – remember inflation, so refunds would come from someone’s pocket (you or me if we pay in).
The rush to stop the use of fossil fuels may very well cause major problems down the line since wind and solar energy have not been around in large numbers long enough to spot problems. Many power plants, and all new ones, are bringing emissions amounts to a much lower level.
Also, the stopping of production of fossil fuels will cause hardships to millions of people who will find it difficult to find jobs elsewhere. We would probably start importing some and that will have to come from other countries who will pollute their environment.
We shouldn’t make major changes in living without long hard thought. There are many ways an individual can affect the environment that would hurt less than drastic changes in production of fossil fuel.
Let’s face it, the only way to cut down pollutants is to cut down the number of people, and nobody wants to go there.
