Many of us would like to use less plastic, but it can be hard to find other options. To help raise awareness of our plastic use and to help find alternatives, we are proposing a “Less Plastic for Lent Fast.” Lenten fasts have a long history— usually involving chocolate or meat—but choosing “Less Plastic for Lent” could be a meaningful practice and learning experience, with positive long-term impact.
Co-sponsored by Spirit of the Wilderness Episcopal Church and the Nordic Nature Group and other local folks who are concerned about plastic use.
We will launch our “Less Plastic For Lent Fast” on Monday, February 24 at Voyageur Brewing in Grand Marais at 5:30 p.m. At this gathering we’ll distribute day-by-day calendars for the forty days of Lent, have items to help you with your fast—reusable mesh bags, metal straws and Tupperware, bamboo toothbrushes, a table where people could make their own beeswax wraps. There will also be a support group for four weeks, led by sustainability teacher, Dorothy Broomhall.
