With the high school baseball season over earlier than expected, it didn’t take long for the kids to get back to playing baseball, with the majority of the Vikings varsity team, along with several players from Silver Bay, playing American Legion ball.

In their first game of the year, the Cook County Senior Legion team played the Proctor Rails at Proctor on Saturday, June 15 and fell 8-7.

Proctor took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added one run in each the second and third innings. The Vikings scored three runs in the second, coming off RBI singles by Isaiah Deschampe, Riley Tarver and Riley Tiboni.

The Vikings added two runs in the third and were held scoreless until the seventh when they tacked on two more runs.

Meanwhile, Proctor added one more run in the 5th and was down 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh.

The Rails’ first batter, Parrot hit a sharp grounder and reached third on a throwing error. Vikings’ pitcher Tristen Bockovich walked the next batter. The third Rail hitter grounded to second baseman Andrew Miller who flipped the ball to shortstop Riley Tiboni for an out, but Parrot came home on the play to even the score.

A single by the next batter put Proctor players on first and second with one out.

A deep fly ball to center was caught by center fielder Paul Dorr, but the runner on second advanced to third with two outs.

The Rails’ fifth batter hit a sharp grounder to third that was misplayed and the batter on third reached home to score the winning run for Proctor.

Tristen Bockovich took the loss for the Vikings. Tristen struck out four while giving up eight runs on eight hits over six and one-third innings.

Flick was the starting pitcher for Proctor. Flick pitched five innings, giving up nine hits and allowing five runs with no walks. Coming in relief, Fugere pitched two innings giving up two runs on two hits to earn the victory.

Adam Dorr, Ero Wallin, and Isaiah Deschampe led Cook County Sr. Legion team with two hits each. Joe Deschampe, Tristen Bockovich, Jacob Dorr, and Riley Tarver each had one hit in the game.
