Leave the Second Amendment alone!

This letter is in response to Mr. James King. Please, Mr. King, don’t renew your membership in the NRA. This group does not need you. You belong to Pelosi’s group of gun grabbers.

First of all, the AR-15 is not an assault rifle. It is not an automatic rifle. It is simply a semi-automatic rifle.

As for the word assault, it can be used with any weapon. When you start using the word assault with any gun or weapon, then you are on the way to deleting the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights and changing the Constitution. With all your experience, has any of your guns ever jumped up and started shooting of its own accord?

While in Vietnam, I saw thousands of assault weapons and never did I see one start shooting and killing of its own accord. The only time they ever killed people was when there was a person pulling the trigger.

When someone wants to kill people, they will find a way to do so.

You can take a semiautomatic .22 rifle and do it or a semi-automatic pistol. You can take a sword or knife or even build a bomb. You can also take an automobile and kill people. The point is simply that people kill people. If they are forbidden one weapon, then they will find another.

A fine example of this is Planned Parenthood. They assist in killing thousands every year and yet there are no demands for them to cease and desist their practices. In fact, the same people who want to take away the guns are mostly the same people who think it is okay to kill unborn babies.

As you said, you could jump in your automobile and drive to Duluth and buy an AR0-15 and drive back in a matter of hours. That, Mr. King, is your right guaranteed by the Second Amendment. It does not force you to buy one; it simply gives you the right to do so.

When we as a nation get to the point of abolishing an amendment from the Constitution, then we are near the point of abolishing the whole thing. The Bill of Rights was written for a purpose. They are as good today as when they were written.

On another note, if an 18-year-old boy/man can be drafted and sent to war and kill people, then that same boy should be able to go down to a store and purchase a gun. That is his/her right.
